We seek artists comfortable with experimental interdisciplinary process who can engage in structured group improvisation in a range of performing styles.  Performers must have experience or adeptness in musical instrumentation, vocalizing from a varied perspective of cultural orientation, and should have knowledge, familiarity, understanding, or sensitivity of how media and technology operate in tandem with live and analogue presentation.

GENERATOR is the first installment in the three part cycle titled “Pestilence” – a process merging art, social practice, and technology by combining theater, moving image, light, sound, music, choreography, drama, and immersive interactive media. Pestilence is an expressionistic meditation on epidemics as cultural phenomena. It’s about how virus infects and affects us all from the perspectives of our personal and collective experiences of AIDS.

At the call you will be asked to demonstrate:

  • A Radicalized Cover Song:

Present a radical interpretation of a Madonna song using voice and movement, inspired by themes from Pestilence. Helpful hint: it is not necessary to use any words or melodies from a Madonna song, but it would be fun if you did. Extra points if you can use the words in such a way that they do not carry with them any of their originally intended meanings.

  • Read text from the Pestilence scenario.

  • Evoke the sense of words everywhere throughout as though the sound of the words is as wind in the ears.

  • A directed group contact improvisation.

  • Directed solo and group movement improvisation with props.
