RAIN OR SHINE
Participant-observer/test human Lydia Eccles will share and discuss a Universal Aliens ongoing research project to name and define novel forms of suffering in complex industrial society which lie beneath conscious awareness for one or more of the following reasons:
— Concepts and vocabularies do not exist by which they can be articulated;
— To the extent that suffering does emerge into awareness, it is rationalized as trivial, socially necessary (perhaps natural), or ascribed to personal inadequacy;
— The suffering is incurred in small increments, but is cumulative;
— The human dimension in which harm is inflicted is unrecognized within the socio-cultural concept of the human self.
