Dingy Cafe~ a 15-minute chapter excerpted from a longer movie, Oh Chinatown (2006)
The hot kitchen of a Chinese pastry shop where I hung out every morning to journalize while drinking too many one-dollar cups of self-serve spigot-urn coffee.
Eccles 07-21 Intimacy of Mistakes
Through the Intimacy of My Own Mistakes (in Tubabukan, Moi, Une Tubabu)
Last year I screened What I Learned In Djoulafondo at Le Petit Versailles as 20 relatively objective moviettes. Continuing this project, I’m now working with my audio-diary of 9 weeks in this rural village in Mali, West Africa: A kind of close reading, accompanied by video/stills.  An open question: am I “othering”?

…I’ve found a little secret place where I can get away from everyone; talking English to myself is an important way for me to be stable here (1). Because there’s no one who I can actually talk to and know that I’m being understood, or know that I’m understanding…

1. This goal was not achieved.” – Lydia Eccles
