It is seen as a microcosm of the universe, and uses the essences found in Nature as the basis for its descriptions.White’s still and moving image works skew between the figurative and abstract. They have been called a magical act, “and are based in the non-rational knowledge found in the language of dreams, that uncover society’s underpinnings.“---BIO: Lili White studied painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, while also making Super 8 films. At PS122’s studio residency in 2001, she developed work grounded in Chinese landscape and calligraphy. In 2003, her College Art Association lecture, INVISIBLE ENERGY, diagramed its connection with Asian techniques and philosophies. Her cinematic works connect news-media issues to scientific facts, personal to mythic stories, film and art histories, and other art forms to present a holistic view of the chosen theme. FOOL’s GOLD: CALIFORNIA ROADTRIP in an ELECTION YEAR, a feature film essay from 2014, “painted” a tableau portrait of American “greed”. It was granted a NYSCA finishing funds award. In 2010 she founded ANOTHER EXPERIMENT by WOMEN FILM FESTIVAL in NYC, (http://axwff.com/) which screens experimental film by women (and some men) at Anthology Film Archives, through NEW FILMMAKERS NY. An online streaming web-site (http://axwonline.com/), presents these works and pays the filmmakers immediately upon purchase. It also functions as an archive of women’s endeavors. From 2012 to 2015 she served as an elected Board Member to Millennium Film Workshop, and was chairperson of the Archive Committee, which eventually sold to NY’s MoMA Museum.Lili White I CHING ALCHEMICAL ROOT SCULPTURESLe Petit Versailles events are made possible by Allied Productions, Inc., Gardeners & Friends of LPV, GreenThumb/NYC Dept. of Parks, Materials for the Arts, the NYC Dept. of Cultural Affairs, and the Office of City Councilwoman Carlina Rivera.
