KARL COONEY PERFORMANCE

SEPTEMBER 2, 20167:30 PMLE PETIT VERSAILLES COMMUNITY GARDEN346 E. Houston St. / 247 E. 2nd St.RAIN OR SHINEThe performance will begin at 8:00 PM and end by 8:30 PM.I let go of control through performance. In the process of letting go, I confront body dysmorphia and shame, perfectionism, (trans)misogyny, a fear of intimacy, personal boundaries, appropriation, and the industrial complexes that govern our lives with our coerced consent.Despite my efforts, there is no true letting go, so I channel my impulses to control into performing tasks, programming instruments, creating sound, and projecting video. I confront the failure of the systems I have carefully arranged as they are subjected to the chaos of life and performance and grow from the experience.Karl Cooney is an artist, grant writer, arts administrator, and tour manager based in Brooklyn, New York. When not supporting other artists in their work, they create and perform with unique Max/MSP/Jitter instruments, create video, and struggle against their complicity in the industrial complexes that govern our lives.
