Houston St. / 247 E. 2nd St.ALL LPV EVENTS HAPPEN RAIN OR SHINEOpening Reception - May 13, 2-4 PMOn May 13, 2019 students of Gallatin School for Individualized Studies at NYU, will be exhibiting a mural at Le Petit Versailles garden located at 247 East 2nd St. from 2 to 5 p.m.. Sodas and chips will be provided.The mural is the result of a semester long course taught by Professor Jaime Arredondo entitled, “The Mexican Muralists, their Indigenous Influences, and the American artists they Influenced”.Throughout the course that took place in the Spring of 2019, students learned about the three major muralists of Mexico, otherwise known as “Los Tres Grandes”: Diego Rivera, Jose Clemente Orozco, and David Alfaro Siqueiros. Through analysis of their murals students were able to find visual references to specific gods/goddesses, as well as Native American rituals and practices that the muralists intentionally depicted. As a result, the students chose the theme of gods and goddesses for the mural. The mural is painted with acrylics on a 6’ x 20’ piece of muslin, the same material used for Broadway shows, and will be hung for approximately 1 week. The title of the work is, “Gods and Goddesses of the Modern World”. We hope you like it.
