SEPTEMBER 6 - THOMAS ADAM-GARNUNG: A Date With A Stranger

SEPTEMBER 6, 2018 @ 8 PMLe Petit Versailles Garden NY NY 346 East Houston Street between Avenues B + C subways: F – Second Avenue J/M/F – Delancey StreetRAIN OR SHINEIt's a date. A first time. We have been waiting for this moment for a long time. And it's today. There is this excitement. There is this fear of doing wrong. We remember this other story a summer in Italy. Will the same mistakes be made again? We are getting ready. We don’t know what to wear. We don’t know if the other will recognize us. If we are likely to please him/her. We wonder if we will be able to dance. What perfume to wear. Should we put on make-up? We laugh at our hesitations. But these are real questions. We know it. One hundred times asked. A hundred times without clear answers. What do we expect? We will have to invent. Improvise. Risk it all we’ve got.« What guides my practice is the desire to meet others or to allow others to meet through my works. What I do is always a pretext for meeting. That's why I work very often with amateurs. But also with artists who do not practice art like me. I do not try to teach something. I do not try to entertain. I am trying to produce emotions. And to open doors to increase the possibilities of everyone. For this evening, and without really knowing him, I invited the performer Shawn Escarciga to take his part in the creation: he will be able to interact with me, or not at all. To be like a mirror or a counterpoint. The other or a simple echo. » TAGThe words will be said in French and in English. To complete the evening, or to announce it, a short movie by Thomas Adam-Garnung will be projected. BIOThomas ADAM-GARNUNG, performer and videomaker, and at the same time teacher in philosophy and visual artist, he left both to devote himself to the theater. He founded and directs a troupe, Les Débutantes, composed of amateur and professional artists, actors, dancers, videographers, musicians and visual artists in a spirit of openness and perpetual and fruitful frictions. He first staged classical plays such as Shakespeare's Macbeth or Aeschylus' Oresteia, before designing more and more hybrid projects between dance and theater. His last three plays have been performed in Paris and France, but also in Brussels. In parallel with his stage productions, he conducts video work around dance.Le Petit Versailles events are made possible by Allied Productions, Inc., Gardeners & Friends of LPV, GreenThumb/NYC Dept. of Parks, Materials for the Arts, the NYC Dept. of Cultural Affairs, and the Office of City Councilwoman Carlina Rivera. LPV Exhibitions are made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
