THE RIVER -- MURAL BY ROBERT JAMES ANDERSON NOW ON DISPLAY @ LPV!
On Friday December 12th at 5pm, Anderson's sizable mural The River was officially unveiled in its winter location at Le Petit Versailles Garden, 346 East Houston Street, NY. @ Avenue C. Originally created for this year's MIX Experimental Queer Film Festival, the mural has been carefully moved to now serve as a stunning centerpiece for the garden's many plants and sculptures.Anderson describes the mural (a section of which is shown above) as "a piece about love and its demise". Dense, gestural marks and a bold palette amass to represent two figures in a landscape carved through by a winding river. Scrawled with the artist's own text and full of emotional drama, the piece simultaneously takes an objective stance: "It concedes to the forces that can both bring people together and ultimately pull them apart."LPV Exhibition support for The River has been generously made possible by Robert Dell Vuyosevich.Le Petit Versailles events are made possible by Allied Productions, Inc., Gardeners & Friends of LPV, GreenThumb/NYC Dept. of Parks, Materials for the Arts, the NYC Dept. of Cultural Affairs, and the Office of City Councilwoman Rosie Mendez.
