Life Between Buildings

Le Petit Versailles, POOL (Performing On One Leg), Peter Cramer, Jack Waters, Leslie Lowe, Brad Taylor, Christa Gamper, and many other artists and projects under the collective umbrella of Allied’s archives are featured in this exhibition curated by Jody Graf. Inspired by the history of community gardens in New York City, Life Between Buildings explores how artists have engaged the city’s interstitial spaces. Video and images of POOL At The Pool: Allied’s sponsored project performance collective from the ‘80s in a renegade water ballet ritual/action at the Lower East Side’s Pitt Street pool; POOL and Laceration Team with members of the infamous noise band Swans performing at Art On The Beach (Creative Time’s series on Battery City Park’s under construction landfill); Peter Cramer’s daring suspension over the abandoned Brooklyn Army Terminal, and more.
