Seeking chorus and backup performers to express themselves in movement, vocals, music, and dramatic action in the production of

 

GENERATOR: Pestilence Part 1

All performances will happen at

La MaMa E.T.C. 

66 East 4th Street in New York City.

Performances are February 20 - March 1, 2020

February 20, 21, 22, 23, 27, 28, 29 and March 1, 2020; Thursdays - Saturdays at 8PM and Sundays at 3PM .

 

We seek those who are comfortable onstage and can respond quickly to directions in structured group improvisation in movement and vocalizing. 

 GENERATOR is the first installment in the three part cycle titled "Pestilence" - a process merging art, social practice, and technology by combining theater, moving image, light, sound, music, choreography, drama, and immersive interactive media. Pestilence is an expressionistic meditation on epidemics as cultural phenomena. It's about how virus infects and affects us all from the perspectives of our personal and collective experiences of AIDS.

 

At the call you may be asked to:

  • Evoke the sense of words everywhere throughout as though the sound of words is as wind in the ears.

  • Be directed in group contact improvisation.

  • Be directed in solo and group movement and vocal improvisations with props.

Directors

 Jack Waters (producer/director) co-wrote and created the musical composition for the title role of Jason Holiday in the 2015 film Jason And Shirley directed by Stephen Winter.

 Peter Cramer (collaborator) Artist, performer, and photographer Peter has created multiple moving image habitat installations, performances, and cinematic works at MIX NYC, and for Visual AIDS.  Jack and Peter are Former co- directors of ABC No Rio and current founder/directors of Le Petit Versailles the Lower East Side community garden production venue. John Michael Swartz (composer) Through his solo performance work, and in collaboration with the queer skinned kitchen band NYOBS, John has developed wireless, motion-controlled electronic instruments from affordable, readily-available materials. These instruments will be utilized in his score for the Pestilence Cycle. Mike Cacciatore (collaborator) spent several years touring and cutting an album with the band Griffin and The True Believers (as bassist/guitarist), and performing at the New Museum and Joe's Pub with members of the Half Straddle theater company
