OCTOBER 27 - Petit Téâtre presents Lonely Planet by Steven Dietz
October 27, 2018 @ 8pmLe Petit Versailles Garden NY NY 346 East Houston Street between Avenues B + C subways: F – Second Avenue J/M/F – Delancey StreetRAIN OR SHINEJody (Julian Wolfe) is in his forties and runs a map store. Not one for the outside world, he stays in his store all the time. His friend, Carl (Bizzy Barefoot) a few years younger has been bringing mysteriously attained chairs into Jody's store and leaving them there. When Jody needs to face a frightening but necessary personal decision, Carl tries to convince him it is not only okay to leave the store but also that he must take responsibility for his life. If he doesn't, he will join the set of chairs that Carl has taken great pains to place in the right spots around the store. Through their interaction, the two realize how grateful they are to have such a strong lasting friendship. Jody finally leaves the map store to do what he knows he must if he is to move forward and live a life in and of the world. He returns to find Carl sitting in a chair of his own. The implication is profound and provides the catalyst for Jody understanding that he now has a new position of dutiful care-taker for others on this LONELY PLANET. This compassionate play reveals friendship and fear in the age of AIDS.“Dietz owns all the tools of a crackerjack writer." —NY Newsday.
